Romantic Wedding in Cortona, Italy

May 1, 2012 Destination Wedding

I first knew Irene about 10 years ago during my time in London. We met briefly at a church and she became a very good friend of mine ever since. I guess there were mainly two things that made us easily clicked. The first thing was the fact Irene’s mom is from Bali and having stayed in Bali for years, we often talk about Indonesia. She speaks good bahasa. Second thing was, we both sort of out there on our own. Irene has no siblings, while both her parents live in Japan. On the other hand, I came to London partly because I didn’t know where else to go. So I was really glad I met her. I felt I found a sister far away from home. The wedding itself was held at Cortona, a beautiful small town in Tuscany. I drove about 180 km from Rome to get to Cortona. Thank God I didn’t get lost and nothing happened to my rental car either. So on the 28 September 2011, I safely arrived at Villa Baroncino, where the wedding reception was about to be held. It’s been five years since I met Irene, so it was really good to see her face again. Years ago, Irene often shared stories about her family and it was nice to finally meet them on this special occasion. Then I finally met Rob, the lucky guy. Irene told me a couple of years before that she’s seriously in love with an Irish guy. She told me few good things about Rob and after she sent me the invitation and their story at their wedding website, it seemed to me their love for each other has turned into a commitment. There were around 50 guests at the wedding and I loved every minutes of it. Both Irene & Rob’s families gave me such a warm welcome. I just couldn’t feel better to be around them. I listened to many stories and it’s definitely a pleasure getting to know some of Irene & Rob’s closest friends. But above all I was happy Irene and Rob have started their journey together. Here’s the sweet memories…

Siska often told me about her dream wedding long before the awaited day came. About the songs, the place and how she wanted to prepare a one perfect day. At times, I tried to picture it on my head. And so the day has passed, the moments have gone. I never asked her whether it was the perfect day she’s been dreaming of. But I knew somehow, and I hope the memories remain forever.

Great Wedding Celebration at Benoa Bali

A wedding is beautiful only when there’s so much love from people around you. Family and friends who came over to Daniel and Karen’s wedding must have felt how fun and lovely it was. This was the day they’ve been dreaming of and it came at a perfect time. During the break on that day, I went to the beach and swam alone, then I was sitting by the pool and thinking, ‘I guess I’m pretty lucky’, then I finished my gin & tonic before I went back to the room and prepared for the night. Winter Wedding in Perth, Australia

No one knew how the future is like. My short story with Stephen and Yuli perhaps can be an example of it. I met Yuli during my exchange period to Brisbane in 2003. We hang out once in a while and got on pretty well. I always remembered Yuli as an honest and straight forward person, but she’s also caring and full of fun. A few years later, I accidentally met Yuli again in Jakarta with this dude, Stephen. I didn’t even knew they had a relationship as she didn’t really say much at the time. It was only a brief introduction and few minutes chats until we said goodbye. It never crossed my mind I would have Stephen as one of my close friends since we pretty much enjoy different things in life. Starting from different foods, different lifestyles, different fashion etc. But we’re both crazy about football. That’s one thing in common I can think of right now. However as time went by, Stephen and Yuli became such a unique couple for me. I feel they’re similar almost in every way. When we talk, there’s no boys matter only or girls matter only. Our conversation were frank and honest. I guess the ups and downs that we shared for the last few years helped us to grow better as a person. Now, they’ve been happily married for almost 3 years and were blessed with a baby, named Sophia. Although we often chat on Blackberry, I sort of missed our ‘coffee table’ conversation and that little city they live in : )
