Elaine & Harry

January 4, 2013 Weddings

If I were to shoot a first dance scene for a movie, I would probably couldn’t be happier with the pictures I got from Elaine & Harry first dance. But.. this is not a movie. No direction, let alone a re-take. Elaine and Harry tied the knot in Bali about a month prior to this beautiful dinner reception, which was held at Harry’s family residence. And it looked to me they felt very much at home. Perhaps that was my extra blessing that evening. You might have heard many times that you can see a couple’s chemistry when they looked at each other. In this case, I’m afraid that didn’t really apply to them. They could look anywhere and you could see clearly the chemistry between them. If someone asks me to pick my favorite shot on the night, it will be the black and white picture, just when they’re entering. And when I shot the first dance, the one I put on top of this post.. I probably has lost a word to describe. Elaine and Harry are a match made in heaven. N.B : wonderful flowers and decoration by Amarilis

Nadia & Rama

December 6, 2012 Weddings

I was pretty excited to shoot Nadia & Rama’s wedding since I haven’t shot many traditional wedding lately. There are so many things that intrigue me from a wedding; the music, the ceremony, and the culture. But my main attention is always on the bride and the groom. I love watching the chemistry of two persons who are very much in love. And perhaps for me there’s no greater satisfaction on a wedding than being able to capture those moments beautifully. I love every frame on this wedding, it felt very much like a family event, it’s one moment you can say that love is in the air and also because I had a couple who are perfect for each other and always meant to be together.

Melissa & Norman

October 23, 2012 Weddings

Just last Sunday, I bumped into Melissa and Norman after I had lunch at Pantai Indah Kapuk. That’s quite bizzare, since that was my first ever lunch at PIK and neither of us live near PIK. After we said goodbye, I realized that I haven’t shared their wedding pictures all this time. Melissa and Norman got married last January. It was a memorable day. Melissa is the youngest child in her family. Her older sister Michelle is my friend since junior high school until senior high school, while her older cousin, James was one of my ‘partner in crime’. I could remember briefly the days when Melissa was still in ‘SD’ and her mom used to pick up all her four children at school. I guess time has gone a little too fast. I met Norman like a couple of times before the wedding, so I was surprised when at the reception Norman showed some guts to sing for Melissa in front of hundred of guests. He just made sure, it would be the unforgettable night for Melissa. In the end, I guess they both have found their love. I’m happy I was a small part on their most special day.

Seeing a New Hope

October 17, 2012 Mis·cel·la·ne·ous

15 October 2012 It all began when I was on my way to work and tuned in to the radio. That morning I listened to JakFM, where their famous radio announcer Ronal and Tike were discussing about the big event of the day, the new elected Governor, Jokowi and Basuki inauguration. Suddenly I was thinking to come down and shoot something there, but then I was also thinking what if I lost my wallet there. That could be a disaster. After few minutes of thinking, I decided to go. So I texted my colleague at work,”Let’s prepare some cameras, we’re going to DPRD (The People Representatives House)!” I didn’t and never plan this. I just wanted to feel the power and the enthusiasm that people brought. Like many times before, people have been fooled by an effective campaign tag ‘It’s time to change’ or ‘The change is now’. With a campaign tag ‘Jakarta Baru’, it’s more or less the same strategy. People bought it, but people have seen his work at Solo, so there’s a strong reason why we should go and back for this new leader. For the first time I didn’t want to see it from TV. Just like thousand of Jakarta people who came to DPRD at Kebon Sirih, I wanted to see the face of this new hope from close, from the street. Beyond Jokowi and Basuki faces, these people see and expect a better system, from welfare, transportation to health service. People who stood next to me often shouted,”Jangan lupa kartu sehatnya pak!” Another shouted,”Abis kartu sehat, kartu ATM BCA nya pak!” It’s hillarious at times. The wide Kebon Sirih street is full of people. Men, women, and also children. Before Jokowi showed up, the crowd sang the Jokowi’s anthemn,”Jokowi siapa yang punya? Basuki siapa yang punya?” They went wild the moment Jokowi showed up at the stage. Together they shouted his name,”Jokowiii, Jokowii, Jokowi!” This experience left me with one big question,”Can they deliver?” The expectation is so huge and yet the work can be described as complex. With the right mindset and work ethic, I believe they can. But only time will tell.

Nova & Aldo

July 20, 2012 Weddings

When I met Nova at the beginning of the year and she shared about her upcoming holy matrimony, I was pretty stunned. Israel.. that’s gonna be something for her and her fiance at the time, Aldo. Since Nova’s all set up for the Israeli wedding, I have to comfort myself there will be a next time for Israeli wedding. And I’m more than happy to shoot their wedding reception in Jakarta. Nova and Aldo are the few very lucky couple who had their dream wedding came true. They’re blessed by wonderful families and more importantly they’re so blessed by God. I remembered Aldo told me that few years ago when he visited Cana, he prayed to God so one day he could come back and marry the woman of his dream. And the rest is history.. Only beautiful moments.. Yanti & Bram

March 22, 2012 Weddings

Yanti & Bram tied the knot just over a year ago, on the 20th of March 2011 to be precise. Two days ago, they just celebrated their first wedding anniversary. And I’m sure it was a delightful celebration with Noah, their newborn baby boy : ) What a way to celebrate your first wedding anniversary. Perhaps this post comes out a year too late but I dedicate this specially for both of you. Cheers..

Arman & Lorraine

December 26, 2011 Weddings

Maybe, most of all.. No one anticipated a wedding more than the bride. And Lorraine is the perfect example that, in a positive way of course. At work, she’s used to handle huge responsibilities and have everything well prepared so it’s not surprising to see everything went so well, while I was perhaps not having my best preparation. I arrived in Jakarta on October 1, 2011, after a pretty long flight from Rome, less than 24 hours before their wedding. From the Airport, I had to go to Studio for a family portrait session for Mr. & Mrs. Gouw. We finished about 7pm, and about 10 hours later, another task awaited. I guess the look of my face is the contrary of Lorraine’s. I was a guy in a need of sleep, while Lorraine were glowing with the most beautiful smiles. Anyway, Arman & Lorraine is another classic match of Kanisius & Ursula couple. Arman is a proud Kanisius graduates, I met him several years ago on a badminton court. He’s very good at badminton, maybe too good. Arman is such a quite guy, while Lorraine is so lively. Together, they complete each other. On this day, they just looked so happy together!
