Big Wedding Celebration in Lombok

April 6, 2013 Destination Wedding

I still remembered my first meeting with Yasmin. We’re just about to close our studio and she walked in to the studio. So I sat with her in the gallery, where we had a such a lively chat about 45 minutes. She shared some stories about her background, her fiance and her upcoming wedding in Lombok. And it was some of the most unique stories. At one point, Yasmin told me that her family conservative Arabic background has prevented her to see her fiance after sunset, and even if they went to dinner, they had to be accompanied by someone else, and I followed by saying to her, ‘I can’t imagine what kind of first night you’ll be having.’ Then we couldn’t help ourselves having a big laugh about it. After she left, I was always looking forward to her wedding. Yasmin & Ghozy wedding was truly such an unforgettable 3 days event. Many believed in Lombok that their wedding at the end of last year, was the biggest and grandest wedding in Lombok last year. With all the VIP who’s there and more than 2000 guests at the wedding reception, it was just a bit hard to believe that it was happening there. But my memory is not about the wedding reception, my memory was the warmth of Yasmin & Ghozy family, the people around them, the new wedding culture that I was able to experienced, and the moment we all said goodbye before heading back to Jakarta. And for all these things I would always be forever grateful. At some point, I thought my memories about Lombok would always be about my first honeymoon with my wife, but in my next visit to Lombok, I know that this memory will also come back to mind. Celia & Julius

March 6, 2013 Pre-Wedding Portrait

It was love at the first sight. That happened when Julius first saw Celia, when a mutual friend introduced them. At the time, Celia just returned to Jakarta for good and look for a new job after she decided to call it a day at SQ. Good luck to them, they ended up working at the same office. They knew well their feeling for each other and within less than a year, they decided to tie the knot last month. Now they’re more inseparable than ever.

Indra & Dian

February 15, 2013 Family

These portraits were made in the last quarter of 2012. It was about a month after Dian’s first son birthday if I’m not mistaken. And since Dian have not made a formal family portrait with Javanese attire, she thought it’s the right time to make one. Apart from that, Dian and Indra tagged along with the idea of making a personal and intimate family pictures. With Stella Rissa helping to prepare the wardrobes, we picked and matched the color for each set of themes. We all know Dian Sastrowardoyo as the Indonesian sweetheart with her mesmerizing performance in our cinema, but what I saw that day was perhaps another side that we hardly ever seen. I saw a woman who really enjoyed her being in the middle of the family, a loving wife and a mother who was deeply in love with her child.

Melissa & Abrizal

February 6, 2013 Weddings

I’m a believer that God was the only one that can bring man and woman together so I’m often curious to understand where or how two people met. I found out from Melissa that she and Abrizal met during their college time in the U.S. And in the same college, Melissa older sisters also met a man who eventually became her husband. What a great destiny I think. I suppose they could be looking forward to many more trips together, but as a family. After years of relationship, it looks like this is the day they’ve been waiting for. Melissa and Abrizal looked happier when they’re joined as one. I don’t think I could ask for more.

Jimmy & Agnes

January 18, 2013 Pre-Wedding Portrait

These pictures were actually made in the middle of last year, but Agnes wanted these pictures under the radar until they had their wedding last month. I believe it’s important to choose a place where you have some memories that you hold dear with your love one and Singapore was the only logical place for their pre-wedding shoot since they’ve been living there for the past few years. So we went to a couple of places where they usually went to a place where Jimmy proposed Agnes. It was a memorable couple of days. Make up by Lili Mailidia

Elaine & Harry

January 4, 2013 Weddings

If I were to shoot a first dance scene for a movie, I would probably couldn’t be happier with the pictures I got from Elaine & Harry first dance. But.. this is not a movie. No direction, let alone a re-take. Elaine and Harry tied the knot in Bali about a month prior to this beautiful dinner reception, which was held at Harry’s family residence. And it looked to me they felt very much at home. Perhaps that was my extra blessing that evening. You might have heard many times that you can see a couple’s chemistry when they looked at each other. In this case, I’m afraid that didn’t really apply to them. They could look anywhere and you could see clearly the chemistry between them. If someone asks me to pick my favorite shot on the night, it will be the black and white picture, just when they’re entering. And when I shot the first dance, the one I put on top of this post.. I probably has lost a word to describe. Elaine and Harry are a match made in heaven. N.B : wonderful flowers and decoration by Amarilis

Nadia & Rama

December 6, 2012 Weddings

I was pretty excited to shoot Nadia & Rama’s wedding since I haven’t shot many traditional wedding lately. There are so many things that intrigue me from a wedding; the music, the ceremony, and the culture. But my main attention is always on the bride and the groom. I love watching the chemistry of two persons who are very much in love. And perhaps for me there’s no greater satisfaction on a wedding than being able to capture those moments beautifully. I love every frame on this wedding, it felt very much like a family event, it’s one moment you can say that love is in the air and also because I had a couple who are perfect for each other and always meant to be together.

Melissa & Norman

October 23, 2012 Weddings

Just last Sunday, I bumped into Melissa and Norman after I had lunch at Pantai Indah Kapuk. That’s quite bizzare, since that was my first ever lunch at PIK and neither of us live near PIK. After we said goodbye, I realized that I haven’t shared their wedding pictures all this time. Melissa and Norman got married last January. It was a memorable day. Melissa is the youngest child in her family. Her older sister Michelle is my friend since junior high school until senior high school, while her older cousin, James was one of my ‘partner in crime’. I could remember briefly the days when Melissa was still in ‘SD’ and her mom used to pick up all her four children at school. I guess time has gone a little too fast. I met Norman like a couple of times before the wedding, so I was surprised when at the reception Norman showed some guts to sing for Melissa in front of hundred of guests. He just made sure, it would be the unforgettable night for Melissa. In the end, I guess they both have found their love. I’m happy I was a small part on their most special day.
