Paul Bakery Baking Session

October 29, 2014 Commercial

The baking session is a tradition that has been carried over the years when Paul opened a bakery in a new country. We are grateful for this opportunity, to shoot their first ever baking session in Jakarta. During these two days session, I had a privilege to chat with Jean Pierre Erba, the CEO of Paul for Asia Pacific, who is a great ambassador for Paul. He shared not only the history of Paul Bakery but also their key to success, which is down to create and maintain the quality of the products. And after 9 years I work only with digital, I finally brought my old film camera and lenses out again to shoot during these two days. The result? I think I fell for it all over again. Seeing the blur, the softness felt pretty much like an old romance. Well, hope you guys enjoy!

The Day to Remember

October 23, 2014 Mis·cel·la·ne·ous

20 October 2014, It was truly a remarkable day! Never before the Sudirman Thamrin in Jakarta seen anything like this. That day was the inauguration day of the new president Jokowi and his vice president Jusuf Kalla. Together with four of my colleagues, we went down to the street to shoot what happened on this historic day, where thousand of people gathered at Bundaran HI to see and celebrate the arrival of our new President. I could see from the ground, everyone from the very young one to the old ones were in positive mood despite the usual hot weather at Jakarta. For one moment I thought to myself that we the Indonesian have come so far to be where we are now. We had so many tests in the past that could have destroyed us as a nation. But to see so many people from different backgrounds on the street along with the parades of Indonesian culture from different ethnics gave me a lot of reasons to be optimistic for the future. So when the new president finally arrived, the crowd erupted! Calling and singing his name even louder. President Jokowi represents hope and optimism for many Indonesian. He came from a very humble beginnings. He’s proven that he’s here to serve the people. He stay closely and directly with us ever since he became a public officer. He is one of us. Right after he was declared a victory at the presidential election, he called for number 3 (united Indonesia) and forget about the rivalry between number 1 & number 2. And on his first speech as the president he called for every Indonesian to work hard. Two simple asks from a very simple man if we ever want to become one of the great nations. So the question now is not can he do it? But can we, the Indonesian people do it? A new chapter in our nation’s history has begun. 20 October 2014, is the day to remember.

Fashion Hall of Fame 2014 by Indonesia Tatler & Tex Saverio

September 11, 2014 Fashion

How I really miss the old days when I shot with black and white film. I never forget my favorite black and white film was always Fuji Neopan iso 400. The high contrast and the grain was second to none for me. But those days were long gone. These pictures were taken at Fashion Hall of Fame 2014, 28 August 2014, which was brought by Indonesia Tatler and Tex Saverio. Once I walked into the lobby, I knew this event would look absolutely wonderful in black and white. Thanks to Indonesia Tatler for having me. The missing dream of black and white came right back that night.

Sunny and Chill Out Engagement Shoot in Sydney

August 31, 2014 Pre-Wedding Portrait

Perhaps there’s no better time than the autumn to visit Sydney. The weather was so fine and the lights were absolutely magical. Dennys and Christine have been planning this trip for some time. As they bought John Mayer live concert tickets in Sydney months before. So I’m pretty sure they had the time of their lives. Pre-wedding shoot and followed by John Mayer. Imagine that! I had little time getting to know the couple. But apparently Dennys and Christine are a couple who compliment each other very well. The look on their face during the shoot says everything about their feeling for each other. And it’s all that matter for me.

Sport Lovers Prewedding Session in Jakarta

August 19, 2014 Pre-Wedding Portrait

I know I’ve been absent writing at this blog for too long. So I hope this post won’t be too disappointing for most of you. Harry and Olivia are a couple who I might miss the most after all. Harry in particular didn’t want ‘the usual’ pre-wedding portrait. No need to explain the term ‘the usual’ because I’m pretty certain, the Jakartans understood what it meant. When I showed them my personal portrait photography project, which can be referred here as ‘the unusual’, I remembered Harry and Olivia approved immediately,’That’s really cool, let’s make something like that!’ So we went for this hard and edgy sports portrait style. Harry & Olivia really love sports, they both gym freaks. They first met at the gym and it wasn’t a big surprise that he proposed her at the gym. However Olivia, like most women still wants a bit of ‘the usual’ portraits. At the end, we achieved our goal and that made us all happy.

Modern Wedding in Fullerton Hotel Singapore

May 7, 2014 Destination Wedding

Kenneth & Ockta wedding on 4 January 2014 was the first wedding we shot in 2014. What a time to start a new year! Because this was our first opportunity to shoot a wedding in Singapore. But when our flight was delayed for about 2 hours a day before, it certainly wasn’t the kind of start we were looking for. About 10 p.m that evening, we met with Kenneth & Ockta at the Fullerton hotel to check the venue. I could feel they both really looked forward to the big day. So the next day, It was still dark outside when we left our hotel about 5 in the morning. We took a bus ride to get to the Fullerton hotel because we never go with a bus when we shoot in Jakarta, so we wanted to give it a try. We had all the space for our bags and equipments since there were only few people on the bus apart from us. Felt like we had a private bus and the bus stopped only about 50 meters from the hotel. We enjoyed this experience a lot. Everything just went very well. Kenneth and Ockta must have felt so much love on that beautiful day. These pictures say everything about their happiest day. By the way, if you decide to watch their wedding trailer at the end of this post, I finally understood a couple of months later why the flight had to be delayed. Because if it hadn’t happened the way it happened, we wouldn’t have that beautiful sunset sky shot above Singapore. Kenneth & Ockta (Trailer) from Andrew Octaviano on Vimeo.
